PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Last week, a story surfaced, written LA Times reporter Sam Farmer that said Andy Reid was prepared to leave the Eagles if not given more control over player personnel. Though a statement from Reid was issued denying the report, we didn't hear anything directly from the Eagles head coach's mouth. Today, Reid spoke, and appeared to deny the report.
"I've got the final say, but I will tell you: We work as a team," said Reid, the NFL's longest-tenured coach who will enter his 14th season in Philadelphia. "We've always done that. One of our strengths is that we do that. We check our egos at the door, and we work together, and we listen to each other.
"We have great respect for each other. We come out with that final move, and I kind of put the stamp on it. The people I work with are phenomenal. That's the way it's been and will continue to be."
Though Reid endorsed the way the Eagles front office works, and the people he works with, note that Reid did not flatly say, "that never happened."
Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer joined 94WIP's Michael Barkann and Rob Ellis Wednesday to talk about Reid's comments at the NFL Annual Meeting in Palm Beach. Reid's quotes from the meetings, including an admission that he "goofed" in not acquiring a more capable linebacker last season, and a denial that he wanted to draft Jason Pierre-Paul over Brandon Graham are available here.
