Analysis: The Democratic Convention In Charlotte
By Special Contributor Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The convention story moves from Tampa to Charlotte.
Philadelphia City Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown views this week and the role of the delegates as pure political combat. She says the Democrats are ready to follow the Republicans with energy.
"Politics is contact sport. And it's so important to engage what I call 'trench warfare' where you have to be up close and personal with voters who can help you carry your message with voters who can serve as an ambassador. And that's truly one role of delegates."
In the aftermath of the Republican Convention in Tampa, some of the pundits are claiming there is an enthusiasm shortage among the Democrats. Montgomery County commission chair Josh Shapiro, who is headed to Charlotte says, NO!
"When Ryan was picked for VP when you heard in the Republican Convention a further crystallizing of their effort to take this country backwards and now I'm sure the President will hit the ball out of the ballpark this week at the convention when he talks about that choice even more so." We have a very fundamental choice in this election and it's seriously a fundamental choice that we had four years ago that Democrats rallied behind and they will again this time."
