Analysis: Ryan Pulls Romney Into Tie With Obama In Wisconsin

By Larry Kane

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In campaign 2012, a new state up for grabs and a taxing issue.

Mitt Romney's gamble of putting Paul Ryan on the ticket has produced a result in Ryan's home state of Wisconsin. Depending on what poll you're looking at it's Obama by one or Romney by one in Wisconsin. That result came out a day after the F&M Poll had Obama up by 6 in Pa.

The President is inching up in the national Gallup tracking poll of likely voters. Republicans in swing states are wondering what the impact of the deficit hawk Ryan will be.

Locally, major Republican players are fascinated by Romney's Ryan gamble to ignite the Republican base, which has turned the party toward the right. The irony is that it's similar to the tactic by George W. Bush in 2000 that, as we know, provided a very close race.

But, Mitt Romney is trying to put a big issue behind him. He says he has paid no less than a 13 percent tax rate in the last ten years, much lower than a majority of taxpayer. The release of his tax rate came in hopes of quieting Democrats who are attacking his refusal to release the actual returns.
