Analysis: Rick Santorum Needs Another Win To Stay In The Game
By Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - This is not the biggest day of Campaign 2012, but it could be a big one for a Pa. candidate.
The primary battle moves to the West and Midwest. Right now, several polls have Rick Santorum leading Mitt Romney in Minnesota, in second place in Colorado and leaning toward victory in the Missouri primary, which is not for delegates -- it's a non-binding popularity contest.
Newt Gingrich is trying to hold on for the Southern states, but Santorum needs a win now. Campaign cash is short and Santorum, who has done much better than expected in this wild year, may be out of options.
Sources in the Santorum campaign say the candidate is determined to be the only conservative alternative remaining against Mitt Romney. Today's showing may determine whether the former Pa. Senator can get the resources to stay in the race.
