Analysis: Politics In Pennsylvania
By Special Contributor Larry Kane
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - On the political scene, Katherine McGinty, a former Pennsylvania Environmental Secretary, announced for the Democratic nomination for governor. And there was a lot more.
It was a week of background action. Tom Wolf, a former Pennsylvania Revenue secretary continued fund raising efforts for the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania Governor and hired his own team of advisers. Wolf from the Lebanon area starts his campaign with - he says - $10 million.
Big week for Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, who announced that she is officially running. Democratic insiders say that at this point she is the presumed frontrunner.
As far as the seat she may vacate, we reported that Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, ex-congresswoman, may run again with the support of Bill Clinton; her son's father in law (see previous story).
And on the Republican side, Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey scored big by co-sponsoring a bipartisan bill to enhance gun background checks.
That bill is still pending in Congress.
