Analysis: Artistic Freedom Of Expression
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia organization is backing a controversial artist in a case of freedom versus the limits of expression.
Artistic freedom, should it be unlimited even when it may offend ethic groups. Craig Snider director of the Philadelphia based Freedom Center welcomes Lars Vilks (photo) to town.
He's the Swedish artist whose drawings of Muslims angered the Muslim world. Vilks has also been threatened with his life.
Snider says freedom can't be defined by anger, "On this particular one, about free speech with the idea that in a democracy, in a free culture, expressing dissent openly without fear of reprisal or criminalization is kind of a hallmark of our country and of our tradition. Whether or not we agree or disagree on any one given point, we take it for granted that we can express dissent."
So the question is, are their any boundaries to freedom.
