By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With the Phillies win over the Marlins Monday night, and the Cardinals loss, the Phils' chance of making this playoffs this year grew to about 1.5%, according to a computer model.
So you're saying there's a chance?
The Phillies sit five games out of the second wild card spot in the National League. Aren't you regretting your decision to pan MLB's decision to add the extra wild card right about now? I am, perhaps just a little.
Playoffs or not, the Phillies have played much better baseball since the beginning of August, and there is reason for optimism.
For our Phillies 24/7 show What's The Word, we spoke to Michael Baumann of Crashburn Alley about his thoughts on playoff chances, Kyle Kendrick's recent performance, Dom Brown's extended big league playing time, historical perspective on Darin Ruf, and Michael's fascination with pitching prospect Phillippe Aumont.
For what it's worth, 94WIP listeners feel there's a much higher than 1.5% chance, as 76% polled on the Audio Roadshow app during the WIP Morning Show today said it was "time to get back on the bandwagon." If you'd like the free app, download it HERE.
