Amtrak Warns of Expected Service Disruptions From Thursday Snowstorm

By Dan Wing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Amtrak is warning riders to be ready for some canceled trains ahead of this storm.

With blizzard-like conditions predicted from Virginia through New England, Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz notes that not much is affected in the Philadelphia area so far, except for the cancellation of some long-distance trains headed toward Florida and the Carolinas, where the weather is already creating a mess.

But, he adds, things here could change in a hurry.

"We'll be evaluating the situation here today, and we'll make plans as appropriate for services here on the Northeast Coridor tomorrow," Schulz told KYW Newsradio late this morning.

And Schulz says information about canceled services should be easy to find.

"By all means, check with us on amtrak.com.  Follow us on Twitter @AmtrakNEC for service alerts and service adjustments. And of course you can call us at 1-800-USA-RAIL."

Schulz says they expect heavy call volume as the weather gets worse, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if you call for info.
