PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Many around the nation are taking time out to of their day today to celebrate and commemorate Flag Day.
And the flag is only part of the celebration.
"This is a moving time because it's both the birthday of the active component of the Army, and also the roots of the Pennsylvania National Guard," says Maj. Gen. Randy Marchi, deputy for army with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He says this 238th anniversary celebration is a special one.
"I'm very proud of being an American," he tells KYW Newsradio. "I'm very proud of wearing this uniform, and I'm very proud of being around other members of the community who understand that freedom is not free."
As part of the celebration there was a parade from the Constitution Center to Independence Hall, and a ceremony in which a number of young men and women were inducted into the US Army.
