Police: Missing Allentown Teen Went To Mexico With 45-Year-Old Man
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS/AP) — Police are encouraging a missing Pennsylvania teenager to come home to her family after she traveled to Mexico with a 45-year-old man.
Allentown police said Friday that Amy Yu and Kevin Esterly bought one-way tickets from Philadelphia to Dallas and then headed to Cancun. They say they believe the teen went willingly.
"Credible information was received, indicating that Amy Yu and Kevin Esterly had obtained one way airline tickets and had flown from the Philadelphia International Airport via Dallas/ Fort Worth ultimately to Cancun Mexico," said Capt. Bill Lake, with the Allentown Police Department.
This information is what has prompted authorities in Mexico to issue an Amber Alert for Amy Yu.
But investigators admit it's not necessarily "new" information.
Authorities have known for several days the pair flew to Mexico. They hesitated to release that because investigators believe Yu and Esterly may be monitoring the media coverage.
However, on Friday, authorities are deciding to use that to their advantage.
"We are asking the media to relay a message to Amy, that her mom and brother are very worried about her. And want her to come home," said Lake. "Amy if you are uncertain now how to come home or who to go to we would encourage you to go to a law enforcement personnel in Mexico or perhaps a resort staff member."
Yu's family previously said the two met at church years ago, and the girl is friends with one of Esterly's daughters.
Yu was reported missing last week.
If you see the car or either Amy Yu or Kevin Esterly, give Allentown police a call at 610-437-7753.
