Amazon Offers Employees $5k To Quit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- So if your boss came up to you and offered you say, $5,000 to quit your job and walk away, would you - could you - do it?
It's not a joke at Amazon where the boss is offering buyouts to employees in his fulfillment/warehouse centers across the country.
Amazon's Jeff Bezos says his "Pay to Quit" offer isn't designed to chase people away.
Rather, it's meant to make sure the people working at Amazon's warehouse/fulfillment centers really want to be there.
Bezos says workers get a letter titled "Please Don't Take this Offer."
Amazon actually started the "Pay to Quit" program a couple of months ago.
According to a company spokeswoman, fewer than 10% of the employees took the boss up on the offer.
Amazon has more than a dozen warehouse/fulfillment centers throughout the tri-state area.
The company says it pays its warehouse workers about 30 percent more than typical retail workers make.
One job tracker website says workers typically make about 25,000 a year plus stock benefits.
