Allentown, Pa. Amusement Park Fined After Teen Food Vendor Burned
By Kim Glovas
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Dorney Park, the amusement park in Lehigh County, Pa., is facing a fine and citation after the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) ruled that it did not protect young workers from heat hazards on the job.
OSHA cited Dorney Park under its parent company, Cedar Fair, in connection with an incident on June 9th.
"(A) teen worker collapsed near a food fryer," says Matt Dahms, an assistant area director for OSHA. "We conducted an inspection and issued one serious violation of the 'general duty' clause for Cedar Fair's failure to develop and implement procedures protecting employees while they worked in outdoor conditions in direct sunlight and in small food stands where heat sources existed."
The teen in question suffered burns when he collapsed.
Dorney Park faces fines totalling $9,000 for not having a heat illness prevention program. The amusement park has 15 days from receipt of the citation to respond.
