All-Day Jazz On The Avenue Celebration Saturday In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The seventh annual Jazz on the Avenue Festival is today from noon until 7 p.m. at Broad and Cecil B. Moore Avenue.
Music, history and community will collide for a fun-filled day of events in North Philadelphia.
Cecil B. More Avenue used to be known as "Jump Street." It was the happening section of the North Philadelphia where black business thrived during the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.
"Jump Street was full of jazz night clubs all the way down Columbia Avenue from Broad to Ridge," said Ken Scott.
Scott is president of Beech Companies which is sponsoring the free Jazz on the Avenue celebration, which includes a health fair, kids zone, food and of course, a diversity of music.
"We have Pablo Batista, which brings a Latin jazz mixture to it. Charisa, The Violin Diva, with the electric violin, the Clef Club Youth Jazz Ensemble, Robert Kenyatta," said Scott.
Temple University alum Jermaine Bryson and Mozaic Soul will be the headliner.
"We have pop, bebop, jazz, funk, gospel, neo-soul, R&B, rock - pretty much the whole gamut," said Scott.
The celebration runs until 7 p.m. today at Broad and Cecil B. Moore.
