17-Year-Old Killed, Father Injured In Targeted Shooting Outside Burlington Township Walmart: Police
BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- A 17-year-old is dead after he and his father were shot in a Walmart parking lot on Thursday night. Police are still trying to figure out what led up to the shooting, but as of right now, they say it wasn't a random attack.
"It's terrible, it's terrible. They got to take the guns away," shopper Yvonne Gutierrez said.
Shoppers were left stunned after learning a 17-year-old was shot and killed in the Walmart parking lot on Mount Holly Road in Burlington Township, just after 10 p.m. Thursday.
"I'm always here in the morning or early afternoon, but it's scary. You know? Scary," shopper Mark Waladkewics.
The 17-year-old was identified as Albert Williams of Hammonton. His 44-year-old father, Dione Williams Sr., was also shot but is recovering. He was treated and released from the hospital Friday morning.
"I'm glad I wasn't here to see this because it's terrible," Gutierrez said.
According to an employee who spoke with CBS3's Jan Carabeo, the shots sounded like firecrackers at first. The store was open at the time of the shooting, and the shots led to people sprinting for safety.
"Everybody was running. Everybody. It was scary," Walmart employee Alfred Cooper, who was there working, said. "I was just coming out and I heard a couple of shots. You know, I thought it was fireworks."
The store reopened Friday morning with families getting whatever necessities they may need. But some say this will be their last trip to this store.
"I have babies. I have a 3-year-old, 1-year-old and a 6-month-old so I probably won't come here no more," shopper Alyssa Sterling said.
Walmart says they are cooperating with police and are providing them with surveillance video, but offered no comment to Eyewitness News.
The shooting is still under investigation, and investigators are looking at surveillance video for more evidence. Anyone with information should call 609-265-7113.
