Ahead Of 'Harry Potter' Premiere, Bryn Mawr College Hosts Magic Camp
BRYN MAWR, Pa. (CBS) - It's not Harry Potter's Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but an area college with a castle-like setting is hosting a prestigious youth magic camp this week.
More than 100 participants, ages 11-20, from all over the world are enrolled in Tannen's Magic Camp, taking place on the Bryn Mawr College campus. There are lectures and workshops led by some of the industry's best, covering everything from performance to the business of show business.
Adam Blumenthal is the camp owner. He says what is learned in magic camp stays in magic camp, "This is the one place where all of these professionals will share their secrets. Anywhere else, they would be completely tight-lipped, but they're here to share and they are here to enjoy."
It's 19-year-old student Matt Schick's fifth year.
"If there is any real, existing Hogwarts and Platform 9 and three-quarters, this is it right here, so this is definitely the place to be," Schick says.
This is the second year for 13-year old Adam Krevlin of New York City:
"I mean, before this I was just a kid doing card tricks. Now I feel like I can perform. I feel like I can get up there; I have more confidence in myself, I'm now doing birthday parties."
The camp has been around 37 summers. This is the fifth at Bryn Mawr. Graduates of the program include Oscar winner Adrian Brody, The Millionaires' Magician Steve Cohen, and David Blaine.
