After Sunday's Game, Some Phils Head To North Bowl For Fundraising Event
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)– Some Phillies will be taking part in games other than baseball Sunday night, for charity.
Following their afternoon game against the Cubs, Carlos Ruis and other Phillies players will bowl and play pool. It's a fundraiser for Philadelphia Futures, an organization that helps low-income first-generation-to-college students enter college and succeed there.
Philadelphia Futures executive director Joan Mazzotti says with the Phils' help, the "Get in the Game" event has raised a $1.5 million over the last decade.
"Chase Utley hosted the event for a number of years. Shane Victorino took the mantle for several years and then it was passed to Carlos Ruiz in the last two years," says Mazzotti.
Four hundred people are expected at this year's event, which is already sold out. It begins at North Bowl in Northern Liberties at 6:30 p.m.; providing the Phils and Cubs don't go into extra innings.
