After Pa. Budget Veto, Gov. Wolf Upbeat After Meeting With Legislative Leaders

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- One day after he vetoed the entire state budget, Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf emerged from a brief meeting with legislative leaders today exuding optimism about ending the budget stalemate.

There was no resolution to the budget dispute during the meeting between the governor and legislative leaders that lasted about a half-hour.

But, Wolf said, "There was mutual respect. We're going into this in the right way.  The arms are unfolded.  And I think we understand that we have to reconcile our ideas.  We have to come up with a budget.  We have divided government.  We have obvious disagreements, but we are going to come up with a budget that moves Pennsylvania forward."

The governor says that when it comes to state workers, furloughs and payless paydays are, in his words, "not part of the deal anymore" when there is no budget.  Court rulings have addressed that.

But the state House majority leader said he believes some human service agencies who get state funds will feel the impact sometime this month.
