After Fatal Northeast Philadelphia Fire, Fire Department Reminds Neighbors About Outreach Program
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The cause of yesterday's fatal fire in the 300 block of Buxmont Street in the Far Northeast remains under investigation (see related story).
That fired claimed the life an elderly man. Fire officials say there were no working smoke alarms in the house (photo).
Tuesday, firefighters were in that neighborhood promoting the fire department's "Fire Safety Representative" program.
Those behind the program look for citizens from each block in the city to receive e-mails from the Philadelphia Fire Department concerning fire-related safety issues.
"The Fire Service Representative program encourages them to e-mail the fire department concerning any fire-related questions or if you have anyone on your block that needs smoke alarms," says fire department executive chief Richard Davison.
