After Car Crash Death of Student, A Bucks School Modifies Pre-Prom Safety Talks

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Before the students at Truman High School in Levittown (Bucks County) attend their prom this Friday, they were participating in a program to help them make better decisions.
Each year before the prom at Truman High, the school puts on a program to encourage students to make sure they get to and from the prom safely.
But teacher Jill Saul says after a student died in a car crash this past April, they decided to change the program significantly.
"We usually do a mock car crash program that's a two-day event, but because of the events this year we decided to do something different," she explains.
This year, after listening to speakers, students broke into discussion groups.
"One of my friends is talking about how her mom's a recovering alcoholic and I never knew this about her," says Colin Lester, a senior. "So it's really good like this because it has a good message and people are taking it seriously."
What do students think is the best part about this new program?
"I think that everyone gets to hear the message, not just a few people," says senior Georjenna Gatto. "Because before, only a few would hear it. It really should impact everyone, not just a few people."
