African American Museum Plans Four Days Of Programming To Celebrate Legacy Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The African-American Museum in Philadelphia is set to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The institution at 7th and Arch Streets will have four days of celebrations, including the national observance of MLK Day on January 18th.
President and CEO Patricia Wilson Aden of the African-American Museum says the expanded programming will begin on Friday of the Dr. King weekend, with a focus on economic empowerment and social entrepreneurship for millennials.
On Saturday, it's family day.
"We'll have hands on activities for kids; they'll be able to talk about non-violence and community activism in a constructive way."
The emphasis that Sunday will be given to teens, by challenging on issues relating to Social Justice, encouraging them to use video, art, the spoken word and essays to respond to Dr. King's "letter from Birmingham jail.' It was penned while he was confined for leading a nonviolent demonstration.
On Monday, MLK Day activities include the ever popular Scavenger Hunt.
"It helps young children travel through the museum and find clues about the exhibits. if they successfully complete the scavenger hunt, they'll be rewarded with a book, called "What is your Dream, Dr. King?'"
Citizens Bank is sponsoring the event, allowing the museum to distribute tickets for free admission to community-based organizations, recreation centers and other groups. Other guests are offered discounted $2 per person tickets.
