Advances In Healthcare Technology
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Every now and then we take the time to talk about electronic medical records and the role of computers in medicine. It is a strange topic because most of us don't think about computers when we think about care.
Most of the big changes with computerization in medicine over the past few years have been about process and gathering statistics but there are entrepreneurs out there who are working to develop technology revolving around the smart phone to help with care.
This maybe the most exciting aspect of the new technology.
Some examples are doctors being able to monitor rhythm strips – or measures of the patient's heartbeat without the patient leaving his house.
And it doesn't end there.
We can monitor everything from blood pressure to specific details related to blood work. Just keep your eyes and ears open.
