Admiral Wilson Boulevard Floods Despite Costly Drainage Project
CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) - The weekend's floods forced a closure of Admiral Wilson Boulevard in Camden. Wasn't all of the drain work supposed to fix that?
You might think after the year-long $8-million dollar project to improve drainage on the Admiral Wilson Boulevard wrapped up last fall (see related story) that the highway wouldn't close for flooding as it did Sunday morning. But New Jersey DOT spokesman Tim Greeley said the expectation was always that 80 percent of flooding closures would be eliminated, never 100 percent.
And Greeley said overall the project has been successful.
"The past four or five months we've seen other incidents of high tide and other weather incidents where it normally would have lead to some lanes being closed on Route 30 in which that hasn't happened."
Greeley said the weekend's three inches of rain combined with a high tide created a recipe for a road closure.
