Adam Aron: 'The Strategy Is To Make Andrew Bynum Welcome In Philadelphia'

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Adam Aron made it clear that he wants Sixers fans to embrace Andrew Bynum when he arrives in Philadelphia. He thinks it's so important, that he wants them to be there in person to welcome him.

"The strategy is to make Andrew Bynum welcome in Philadelphia," Aron told 94WIP's Angelo Cataldi and The WIP Morning Show on Monday.  "To start that off right, we decided that the initial press conference to introduce Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson to Philadelphia is to do it open to all Sixers fans. That has not been done for a long time." Aron said that the press conference could be Wednesday, but that is not yet confirmed.

The team also put up several "Welcome Andrew Bynum" billboards around the Philadelphia area shortly after the trade was completed. .

"We know that we have a fighting shot of signing Andrew Bynum to a long-term deal" Aron said. "We can pay him more than other teams, we can sign him to an extra year, which is worth tens of millions of dollars. But much more than the money, you know, he's going to get offered a max-contract by any team in the league. So the real issue is we've got to make sure he wants to play in Philadelphia. That means giving him a good team. Giving him a fanbase that cheers him on and encourages him."
