Accused Philadelphia-Area Cocaine Dealers Waive Hearing, Will Go To Trial
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - More than two dozen people accused of being part of an elaborate cocaine distribution ring in three area counties are headed to trial in Montgomery County, Pa., after waiving their preliminary hearings.
At the top of the ladder are brothers Anthony and Michael Dennis and James Adams, who prosecutors say supplied cocaine to mid-level drug dealers who in turn sold the product on the streets of Chester and Montgomery counties and the city of Philadelphia.
Investigators say Anthony Dennis owned a barbershop in Tredyffrin Township that fronted the operation (see previous story).
Prosecutor Rebecca Strubel says they used wiretaps to bring down the organization.
"This cocaine ring was a complex organization with multiple players, and it serviced at least three counties," she told KYW Newsradio. "And they were very active dealers servicing a number of users throughout all three counties."
The Dennis brothers are being held in lieu of $2 million bail each, but will ask a judge later this month to reduce that amount.
Strubel plans to oppose that request, saying the defendants face a number of serious felony charges.
