Accused NJ Cop Killer To Appear In Court
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) -- The man accused of gunning down a New Jersey police officer is scheduled to make his first appearance in court Tuesday.
Jahmell Crockam is charged with murder and weapons offenses in the death of Lakewood Patrolman Christopher Matlosz on Friday.
The 19-year-old was arrested Sunday in Camden.
The motive for the deadly shooting remains unclear.
Authorities said Matlosz and the teen were speaking when Crockam suddenly pulled a gun and fired three shots into the officer.
Crockam was wanted for possession of an illegal rifle and hollow-point bullets at the time. It's unclear whether the officer knew that.
The slain officer's fiancee and mother attended a candlelight vigil on Monday night.
