ACCT Philly Hosts Free Cat, Kitten Adoption Event

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Want to give a cat or kitten a new home?

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is hosting a fee-waived cat and kitten adoption event, called the "Feline Freedom Adoption Frenzy," now through Saturday, July 9. The open-admission shelter hopes to save cats' lives and free up much-needed cage space for incoming strays and owner surrenders.

"An unusual spike in cat intake combined with a slow adoption weekend means space is tight," said Carolyn Fitzgerald, ACCT Philly Director of Lifesaving. "We are committed to finding homes for as many of these cats as possible and are counting on the public to adopt and save a life!"

Cats and kittens of all sizes are looking for homes, including Jasper (seen in above photo), a social and outgoing one-year-old orange tabby who previously lived with children and dogs, and Coraline (seen in above photo), a four-month-old kitten who can't wait to join a new family.

All regular adoption screening and procedures apply during the event, which includes an application and in-shelter "meet-and-greets" between children and the new furry family member.
