2 Atlantic City Firefighters Charged With Buying Heroin Outside Fire Station

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Two members of the Atlantic City Fire Department have been arrested for allegedly purchasing heroin near the fire station, according to New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.

Eric Funk, 39 and Matthew Doherty, 33, were both arrested, on the charge of third degree possession of imitation heroin.

Officials say that an undercover New Jersey State Police trooper sold both Funk and Doherty imitation heroin outside of the fire station. Authorities say Funk was in uniform at the time and paid cash while Doherty paid with a watch and was not in uniform.

Police say the men believed they were buying herion.

Before the investigation, police received a tip that the two men had been purchasing heroin near the station.

Funk was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic syringe/needle and possession of a prescription drug without a prescription.
