Abington Burglars May Be Part Of Suburban Crime Spree

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP (CBS) -- Abington police busted two Philadelphia men for breaking into a home Tuesday afternoon and now police say they are charged with four break-ins in three communities and may be part of a much wider suburban crime spree.

Police say 62-year-old William Perkins and 46-year-old John Wilson face charges in connection with home burglaries in Abington, Cheltenham and Philadelphia. The most recent was Tuesday on Edge Hill Road.

Deputy Police Chief John Livingood says police spotted their white pickup and that started a high speed chase and wreaked havoc on the streets.

"It sideswiped a car in Abington Township and it had a ladder rack on the pickup truck … one of them flew off and also struck another vehicle and injured an individual as well," said Livingood.

The chase ended when they hit a parked car in Northeast Philadelphia. Police recovered jewelry they tossed from the truck during the chase.

Livingood says search warrants executed at their homes turned up more stolen goods. He says the white truck matches the description of a truck seen at many other burglaries.
