"A Tribe Called Quest" Plays Their Final Show at Bestival 2017
Philadelphia (CW Philly ) -- Attendees of recent A Tribe Called Quest shows have gotten the first hand notice that the group plans to shut things down for good after their 2017 tour.
Earlier in July, Q-Tip gave indication to fans, telling those first to hear at the Panorama Festival, that "This is it as Tribe. We can't, you know… we gotta honor our brother Phife Dawg."
Q-Tip announced the group's final show as A Tribe Called Quest Saturday night at Bestival in Dorset, England. "A Tribe Called Quest, we suffered a blow," Q-Tip told the crowd. "We lost our boy Phife Dawg. This is gonna be our last show as A Tribe Called Quest, ever."
This comes after the group went 18 years without releasing an album, as Ali Shaheed Muhammad, known as Phife Dawg, Q-Tip and Jerobi all pursued solo projects and other endeavors after their last release together, The Love Movement, in 1998.
In November of 2013, Q-Tip announced the group would be performing their final series of shows while opening for Kanye West on select dates during the Yeezus Tour. Phife Dawg's death from complications of diabetes in March of 2016, makes Q-Tip's announcement of Saturday's performance as the final Tribe show ever to be more likely to hold up than the previous they made long ago.
"Twenty seven years, thanks for all the support you've given us over the years," Q-Tip told the crowd. "Phife Dawg!"
