A Salute To Veterans In Northeast Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A senior center in Northeast Philadelphia saluted veterans on Wednesday, two days ahead of Veterans Day, and encouraged them to preserve their stories by sharing them with future generations.
At 91-years-old, WWII veteran Don Greenbaum knows he only has so much more time to talk about his role in liberating a German concentration camp.
"As we marched forward into Dakau, the sky turned black," Greenbaum said. "We didn't know why. About mile inside, we found 15 box cars with all nude, dead people."
And those who were still alive were set free.
Greenbaum says he's proud to be an American and he hopes a new generation of young leaders can step up and unite the nation.
"It's a very divided country right now, unfortunately," he said. "But the younger generation has to get involved and learn to live with each other, learn to accept America as the greatest country in the world."
