A New Type Of Gun Is Drawing Attention From Local Law Enforcement
HAMILTON, NJ (CBS) - The evidence locker at the New Jersey State Police's Technology Complex has a diverse collection of about 3,300 including some disguised as every day objects.
"We have pen guns, cane guns, knife guns," says Det Sgt Chris Clayton from the NJSP Ballistics Unit.
One gun they do not want to add to the collection of confiscated weapons is the new Ideal Conceal .38 caliber that looks exactly like a smart phone.
This week State Police tweeted out a picture of the gun with the hash tag #ReasonsHumansWillGoExtinct.
It could hit the market within a few months and is being marketed as a way to carry a gun without drawing unwanted attention.
"There are some people that would take serious issue in the workplace or somewhere else to see a gun on you, and I think it gives people the opportunity to avoid that conversation," Ideal Conceal CEO Kirk Kjellberg told CBS News.

On Monday New York Senator Charles Schumer called for a federal investigation and wants the guns outlawed before they hit the streets.
"The latest 'great idea' for a concealed gun should come with 9-1-1 on speed dial because this iPhone gun is a disaster waiting to happen," said Schumer in a press release.
He and Kjellberg disagree on whether the gun violates federal laws covering pen guns and similar concealable weapons.
"The problem for law enforcement now is you can let your guard down. For you to go out there and think every cell phone is a gun that's hard to do," says Clayton.
