A Busy Night For Philadelphia Firefighters
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Monday night was one of the busiest nights in many months for firefighters in the city of Philadelphia.
Firefighters based in almost every fire station in the city were kept busy as fire companies not actively fighting fires worked to cover those that were.
The long night began early Monday evening with a fatal one-alarm rowhouse fire in the 3200 block of North 32nd Street, in North Philadelphia. One person died after being trapped by flames on the second floor.
Then, just before 9 PM Monday night, a huge five-story factory warehouse went up in flames. That fire went to five alarms and prompted evacuation of an entire Kensington neighborhhood near Boston and Haggert Streets (see related story).
Then, as Monday night faded into Tuesday morning, firefighters battled two more rowhouse fires. One was near 48th and Parrish Streets in West Philadelphia, the other nearby at Preston and Brown Streets. There were injuries and rescues in both.
Both of those incidents were under investigation.
In addition, Philadelphia firefighters handled at least one smaller fire overnight in the city. There were no injuries in a second-story apartment fire in the 4900 block of Lancaster Avenue.
