$7M Plan To 'Turn Around' Poorly Performing Schools In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The School District of Philadelphia is investing millions of dollars in a plan to "turn around" some of their worst performing schools.
Fifteen of the districts lowest ranked schools are slated to take part in the program that's designed to accelerate student progress through added support and resources in the classroom.
"Turn Around network will focus on identifying and supporting grade school leaders, implementing routines to improve teaching and learning and building instructional capacity," says District superintendent Dr. William Hite
He says they cannot achieve great schools without focusing on students who are in schools most in need of leadership, instruction and a positive learning environment:
"We have continually heard calls for increased investments and greater internal support for district turnaround efforts. This is our response to those calls
The Turn Around program is slated to start at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year and will pump more than $7-million of relocated funds into the schools.
