6-Year-Old Smiling, Recovering From Being Caught In Philadelphia Crossfire
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- 6-year-old Mahaj Brown is amazingly still smiling after being riddled with bullets a week ago. He was the passenger in a car driven by a family friend when they were caught in a hail of gunfire in the 5500 block of West Clarkson street in East Germantown.
This rally near the shooting scene is meant to comfort the child's family. His mother teetering between sadness and anger. "It hurts me so bad to see him in so much pain and there's nothing I can do to fix it," said his mother Laprea Brown.
Laprea Brown says her son has already undergone seven surgeries with more to come after she says he was hit with 10 bullets from an assault rifle. "I just wanna see my baby come home to be the happy, funny little boy that he is," she said.
"It's important to be here for the family to let everyone see them and see the grieving process," said Colwin Williams of Philadelphia Ceasefire.
This rally happened a day after another rally on the same block calling for an end to the violence in the community. Brown gained her strength from her resilient little 6-year-old boy, demanding justice for the shooters who nearly killed his innocence. "Have a heart. Have a soul and somebody please come forward," she said.
