$5M Slot Jackpot At Borgata, Weeks After $4M Prize
ATLANTIC CITY,N.J. (AP) -- Lightning has struck for the third time in less than two weeks at an Atlantic City casino.
An Ocean County man won a slot jackpot of nearly $5 million Thursday night playing a penny slot machine at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. The payout came less than two weeks after a pair of gamblers took home more than $4 million from two separate slot jackpots.
The man was playing a Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers machine when five "progressive" symbols appeared on the payout line, signaling a jackpot of more than $4,963,819.
On January 16, a man from Staten Island, N.Y. was playing a Wheel of Fortune penny progressive slot machine and won $3,491,146. A few hours earlier, another New York man won $700,161 on a Wheel of Fortune 50-cent machine.
"Lightning struck twice in less than two weeks on our penny slot machines," said Joe Lupo, Borgata's senior vice president of operations. "And we couldn't be happier. We've always said that Borgata is a lucky place to play. I'm sure that these two customers would readily agree."
The two largest jackpots would total nearly a billion pennies, Lupo said.
None of the winners would publicly identify themselves or speak with reporters. Thursday's winner was described by the casino only as a male from Ocean County. They would not give his age or hometown.
All three jackpots were won on progressive slot machines, which link slot players from many of Atlantic City's 11 casinos and form a communal jackpot pool.
The two largest jackpots both came from penny slot machines.
