KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) – The King of Prussia District has received a $500,000 grant, money that will be used to get more people out of their cars and onto public transportation in an effort to relieve traffic congestion.
The three year grant will provide partial funding for a commuter transit shuttle service that will connect the business district with regional rail stops in Norristown and Wayne.
More than 55,000 employees commute by car every day creating traffic nightmares on roads like Routes 202, 422 and the Schuylkill Expressway.
District executive director Eric Goldstein says a survey shows 54 percent would use public transit if it were available.
"I think it really gets to how important public transportation is to people and a lot of people that are driving. They're driving alone and they have very long commutes and they would love to have an alternative," says Goldstein.
They plan is to partner with business property owners to raise the rest of the money for the shuttle. Fare structures still need to be worked out but they hope to have it running in the spring of next year.
