5 Unsrestricted Free Agent Defensive Backs Eagles May Pursue
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- It's no secret---the Eagles need to improve their secondary. The good news is, that's very possible because three of their four starting defensive backs may have played their final game in midnight green.
Cornerback Bradley Fletcher and safety Nate Allen will both be unrestricted free agents. Also, the Eagles would save about $6.5 million on the cap if they decide to cut corner Cary Williams.
Some are calling the 2015 NFL free agent class the best ever, so you would expect the Eagles to spend money in order to bolster their secondary, a unit which allowed the second most passing yards per game in the NFL (264.9).
Here's a look at five unrestricted free agent defensive backs the Eagles could target in free agency.
5. Rahim Moore, safety
Moore, who will be only 25-years-old in Febuary, played his first four seasons with the Denver Broncos after shining at UCLA. Moore, a second-round pick in 2011, missed the final six regular season games and playoffs in 2013, but has bounced back to play in all 16 games of 2014 after recovering from lateral compartment syndrome.
This season Moore has tallied 49 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a career high four interceptions. His Broncos host the Colts in the AFC Divisional Playoff round this weekend.
4. Kareem Jackson, corner
Jackson just completed his fifth season with the Houston Texans and will turn 27-years-old in April. Jackson has only missed six games in five years, and has also played in four playoff games. Jackson, a first-round selection from Alabama, has 10 career interceptions.
3. Brandon Flowers, corner
Flowers turns 29-years-old in Febuary and has played seven seasons in the NFL, six with the Kansas City Chiefs and one with the San Diego Chargers. Flowers has 20 career picks and one postseason interception in two playoff games played.
2. Byron Maxwell, corner
Maxwell, a 2011 6th round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, has blossomed into a solid starting NFL cornerback. Maxwell, 26, has six interceptions in the last two seasons and is a Super Bowl champion.
Maxwell and the Seahawks are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champs, as they host the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Divisional Playoffs this weekend.
1. Darrelle Revis, corner
Revis, a six-time Pro Bowl corner and Pennsylvania native, will be the most expensive player on this list by far. While it isn't likely the Eagles will want to break the bank on one player like Revis, we can dream right?
Revis turns 30-years-old in July. He has 23 picks in eight seasons.
Revis and the Pats host the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Playoffs this weekend.
