4 New Jersey Firefighters Disciplined For Helping During Superstorm Sandy
MANVILLE, N.J. (AP) -- A central New Jersey town has disciplined four volunteer firefighters who went to the Jersey shore after Superstorm Sandy.
The four temporarily joined the East Dover Fire Company in Toms River.
However, Manville emergency management coordinator Ken Otrimski tells the Courier News of Bridgewater firefighters are not supposed to self-deploy during a state of emergency. Otrimski says officials need to know where they are.
Gary Barras says he was expelled from Manville's North End Volunteer Fire Co. 3 for aiding his former hometown. Barras says he was told he could go as long as he didn't use any Manville fire equipment.
