4 Eagles Who Have Trained At Jay Glazer's MMA-Style Gym
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer is way more involved with the players than you think.
Glazer, as chronicled by Robert Klemko in a compelling piece published on Thursday for SI.com's Monday Morning Quarterback, has trained a plethora of NFL stars like Odell Beckham Jr., Reggie Bush, and Chris Johnson at his Sunset Boulevard Gym called Unbreakable.
Glazer uses MMA-style training and workouts with former UFC stars in attempt to create NFL Pro Bowlers. Glazer workouts with the athletes too, despite a horrifying recent near-death experience after back surgery complications, still preventing him from full use of his lungs today and exemplifying the mindset he is trying to teach the players.
As noted by Klemko is his must-read piece on Glazer, four Eagles have worked out at Unbreakable.
DeMarco Murray
Murray, 27, worked out with Glazer this past offseason, his first an Eagle. Murray is already a two-time Pro Bowler (2013, 2014) and is the reigning NFL rushing champion.
Zach Ertz
If you read anything about Ertz this offseason, you know he's been working as hard as anyone, poised for a breakout 2015-16 season. Ertz, 24, also spent this past offseason working out at Glazer's gym, "hoping to build a Pro Bowl future," as the article notes.
Lane Johnson
Johnson, who was suspended last year for the first four games of the season, is also heading into his third NFL season, ready to explode and go "from starter to Pro Bowler."
Johnson, worked out with Glazer doing the "Greco-Roman wrestling inspired pummeling drill."
"Arms grasping at each other's shoulders, they methodically fight for leverage with alternating shoulders digging into the other man's sternum," Klemko writes, describing Johnson and Glazer working out. "When it's finally over after several five-minute rounds, he stares up at Johnson with that contagious neutral scowl, then welcomes the next group."
John Moffitt
Moffitt, a 28-year-old guard, was signed by the Eagles this offseason to help bolster their offensive line which lost Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis. Moffitt has not played in the NFL since 2013 after going through off-the-field fields, and admittedly, needed to get into shape and start over.
The Eagles took a chance, and according to the MMQB.SI.com piece, Moffitt has gained 17 pounds of muscle thanks to Glazer.
"You keep hearing him say, 'neutral face' or 'get your hands off your hips,' " Moffitt says of Glazer in the article. "It's very annoying when you first start that, but after a while it makes you stronger. It makes you used to being tired and used to being in pain and you don't fight it anymore so it makes you more resilient. It just stacks on itself, on itself, on itself, to where you become a stronger individual."
