Police: Woman Attacked, Raped In Cobbs Creek Park

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are investigating a reported assault and rape in the city's Cobbs Creek section.

According to sources, the victim recently moved to the area and was walking home from the bus stop when she was attacked. Authorities say it happened at about 12:06 a.m. Monday near Ashland Avenue and Cobbs Creek Parkway.

The 24-year-old woman told police she was hit over the head and knocked unconscious and dragged into a basketball court at Cobbs Creek Park where she was raped.

Police say the woman notified police after the incident and she was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

The victim described her attacker as a light-skinned black male who appeared to be between 18 and 20-years-old. She said he's about 5'7'' with a thin build and thick eyebrows. At the time of the attack, the suspect was wearing a black puffy sleeveless jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

The incident remains under investigation.
