Watch: 30 For 30 Short On Eagles' Owner Leonard Tose
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Leonard Tose was an extraordinary, complex, and interesting man and according to Ron Jaworski, the former owner of the Philadelphia Eagles was the best owner in football.
Tose, who passed away at age 88 in 2013, had his flaws as well. As told in the new 15-minute ESPN 30 for 30 short produced by lifelong Eagles fan Mike Tomlin, Tose lost all of his fortune gambling in Atlantic City. Tose says he acquired somewhere between 50 and 80 million after selling the Eagles.
Tose says he would play all seven hands at a blackjack table at once, bet $10,000 per hand, and has lost over $1,000,000 in one night before.
Jaworski, the Eagles' quarterback under Tose, along with 94WIP's Ray Didinger, former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil, and general manager Jim Murray helped tell the story of Tose.
"'I got ten million dollars in my pocket,'" Jaworski remembers Tose telling him. "'I may go to Atlantic City.'"
The short opens with Tomlin explaining how he has attempted to make a feature film based on Tose for years now, but to no avail.
