3-Year-Old Boy Struck By Hit-Run Driver In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck a three-year-old boy late Friday night and never stopped.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at 53rd and Chestnut Streets in West Philadelphia.
Police say someone driving a black SUV struck the young boy after the child darted into the street, then fled the scene.
The child was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he remains in stable condition.
The situation could have been far worse were it not for the actions of Emmanuel Johnson, the good-hearted cab driver who drove the child and his mother to CHOP.
"There was a lot of crying, screaming, just trying to get to the hospital basically," said Johnson, who spoke only with CBS3 Eyewitness News.
So far, it looks like the child will pull through, thanks in large part to Johnson.
"I'm not a hero, I'm a regular human being," he said. "You know what I mean? I did what I hope someone would do for me."
Investigators are looking at surveillance video from the scene. The accident was not caught on tape, but surveillance shows what appears to be the little boy running into the road. Moments later, several people can be seen running to his aid.
