3 US Students Arrested In Egypt Head Home
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Drexel University coed accused of throwing firebombs at Egyptian security officers during protests in Cairo is now free and on his way home.
Gregory Porter's attorney, Theodore Simon, says that the 19-year-old student was released from prison on Friday afternoon.
"I am pleased and thankful to report that Gregory Porter is in the air. He has departed Egyptian airspace and he is on the way home."
An Egyptian Court ordered Porter's release on Thursday. But Simon says the release from was delayed by procedural red tape.
"There were a number of administrative hurdles and steps that had to be taken before they could be freed."
Simon says he spoke to Porter on Friday and he seemed very calm.
"He has continued to demonstrate great character and maturity beyond his years given these extraordinary circumstances," Simon adds.
Simon says Porter is eager to return home and get back to his studies.
