3 South Jersey Nursing Homes Owned By Catholic Diocese Of Camden Up For Sale
By David Madden
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Catholic Diocese of Camden is planning to sell three nursing home facilities it operates in South Jersey.
It all comes down to money, according to diocesan spokesman Peter Heuerherd. An expert committee has determined that the government's share of funding has been shrinking for more than a decade.
"The reimbursements for this kind of intensive nursing care that the diocese had been in, the reimbursements had gone down and they don't pay for themselves and the end result is that we were losing money."
The church's emphasis will turn, in time, to providing care through parishes and proceeds from the sale of facilities in Cherry Hill, Vineland and Pleasantville.
Feuerherd says there's already been some initial interest expressed, but any buyers would have to respect church traditions and continue care for patients now in those facilities.
