3 On Your Side: Drive Me Crazy App

(CBS) -- Did you ever see a driver do something dangerous or illegal or just plain rude? 3 On Your Side's Jim Donovan shows us how technology can now hold them accountable.

Illegal turns, distracted drivers, people who refuse to let you in their lane.

It's enough to drive you crazy. Well now, there's an app for that. Aptly named Drive Me Crazy.

"People will do silly things on the road because they think they can get away with it," said the app's developer, Philipe Inghelbrecht.

Inghelbrecht developed the app to help hold bad drivers accountable; he says it gives drivers feedback.

"But also calling them out in public so they know they should behave a bit better on the road," said Inghelbrecht.

So how does it work? First, download the app. Then say or type the offender's license plate. Finally, get it off your chest.

You can write a virtual "ticket" or leave a voice message.

The message appears on the app's site for all to see, including parents, police and insurance companies.

But privacy advocates are concerned for another reason.

"There is a pretty complete picture of where you go and what you do, and lots of people would want access to that information," said Rebecca Jeschke.

The app's founder insists it's making the roads safer. So bad drivers watch out! Someone could be watching you.

Drive Me Crazy says it has registered over 20,000 driving reports so far, and users can also flag a driver for doing something nice, or even flirting.

The company says it does review flags often for inappropriate or malicious comments.
