3 On Your Side: Daily Deal Organization

Jim Donovan reports...

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Daily deal sites can save you money, but with more than 600 of them competing for your eyeballs, they can also end up wasting a lot of your time. So 3 On Your Side Consumer Reporter Jim Donovan tells us about some tools to keep your coupon habit in check, and give you and your wallet a daily deal detox.

Is your inbox cluttered with emails from daily deal sites? It may be too much of a good thing if you're buying vouchers faster than you can use them. If you're just too tempted by these deals every morning, you can cut down the emails and get all of them in one place.

Yipit puts all of the deals in your area, in one email. You can browse deals by category on their site—just restaurants, just fitness, or those in a specific price range.

Deals Go Round lets you create a virtual wallet for your deals, organized by expiration date. If you can't use one of your deals, the site lets you sell it to someone else in their online marketplace.

But keep some low-tech, common sense tips in mind too.

Read the fine print for expiration dates and restrictions. Also, do the math: figure out what you'll need to spend on top of your coupon to pay for a full meal, or how much gas you'll spend getting there.

By the way, don't be afraid to ask for an extension if your deal is about to expire. Businesses often get inundated with customers with these deals, and they might be just fine with you claiming yours after the crowds have died down.
