3-On Your Side: Cash Rewards For Dining Out
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- How would you like to get a reward for eating out? Does it sound too good to be true? Well it's not! 3 On Your Side consumer reporter Jim Donovan reveals how to get in on the dough!
Point, shoot, and make money! At McDonalds, Fridays, even Starbucks!
All you need is a smart phone, Paypal and 'We Reward.' It's a smart phone app that rewards you for the purchases you make.
Here's how it works. Download the free 'We Reward' app and a list of area restaurants and stores will pop up on your smart phone.
They're ranked by the number of points you can get at each one.
"Basically the advertiser will give you instructions on what you need to do to earn these points. Usually it's going to involve taking a picture of yourself with the product or at the location or with their logo," said We Reward founder, Ted Murphy.

Each point is worth a penny. The more points, the more money you earn.
For example, in the mood for pizza? You can go to any Dominos in the country and earn points either for picking up a pizza or doing a take out.
At a Center City Dominos, you can take a photo of your pizza box with the receipt attached and upload it to the site to get 25 points. That's equal to 25 cents.
It works with certain products too like snapping your photo with Cheez Doodles or taking a picture of yourself eating a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.
When you accumulate 1,000 points, the equivalent of ten dollars, you can cash out your points through Paypal.
"We get paid money from the advertiser and then we basically pay you," said Murphy.
It's worked for Mario Ricciardelli.
"I got twenty five dollars back for not doing a lot of work," said Ricciardelli.
Looking for the best rewards has prompted Mario to try new restaurants and stores.
"You pop open the app, and say what's around here and you see a big reward for checking in somewhere, so you go there and its kind of fun," said Ricciardelli.
So far over 300,000 people have used the 'We Reward' app to earn points and money.
And we're not talking about just nickel and dime rewards. Some companies offer bigger rewards, everything from $1 up to as much as $10.
Just but be sure to follow the instructions. Two percent of the downloads get rejected because the photo doesn't include what the advertiser had asked for.
