3 New Intersections In Northeast Get Red Light Cameras

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Starting today, three more intersections in Philadelphia have red cameras flashing away.
With these latest additions, there are now 108 cameras city-wide, at 24 different intersections. The three new locations are: Woodhaven and Knights Roads, Bustleton and Byberry, and Academy Road and Grant Avenue.
The cameras certainly have their critics, arguments against include "big brother is watching", they cost too much, or they're just a money grab, but some drivers admit they do have a positive effect.
"For me personally, I behave a little better, I slow down and I try not to speed through too many yellow lights now."
And officials say the statistics back that up. They say at intersections with the cameras, they see a 60 percent decrease in traffic violations. There are signs posted warning motorists the cameras are in use, and at the three new locations, there will be a 60-day grace period where only warnings will be issued. After that, it's a $100 fine.
