2nd NJ Medical Marijuana Facility Gets Approval

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A second medical marijuana dispensary in New Jersey is scheduled to open later this month. It will be the first dispensary south of Trenton.
The Compassionate Care Foundation in Egg Harbor Township opens October 28th. The state health department gave them the go-ahead on Friday. Next week, staff members will begin calling some of the state's 1,400 registered patients to schedule appointments.
President and CEO William Thomas says it was a long road to get to this point.
"We started almost three years ago, when we put in our application to be a permit holder and it's taken this long to actually get the permit," Thomas said.
He says seeds were planted in June and they will be harvested over the next 10 days.
"The plants will be tested by the state lab for pesticides, for heavy metals, for fungus, for mold."
The other dispensary in Montclair, Essex County, opened in December.
