Young Cancer Survivor to be Honored by Variety Club

by KYW's Karin Phillips

An eight-year-old who beat cancer in both eyes and went on to become a golf prodigy was one of several ambassadors to be honored by the Variety Club at a gala celebration in Society Hill, on Thursday evening.

Eight-year-old Kyle Lograsso was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, cancer of the eyes, when he was just two.

"I just tell people that if your son has cancer, just start praying and help him," he said.

His father, Jeff, calls Kyle an inspiration for millions and said he's just a great kid.

"He always smiled, he never complained, anytime he would have blood taken or any time he would go into surgery, he would always tell the doctors 'thank you.'  He always smiled and he made everybody else feel good."

Kyle has been cancer free for five years.  He's now a golf prodigy who plays tournaments to benefit the Variety Club, which helps special needs children, as well as his own Foundation, called Through Kyle's Eyes.

"He's had surgery on his fake eye, his prosthetic eye, eight times," adds his father.  "When he was little, he'd like to take it out and put it on his cheek and scare his sisters.  He put it in his sister's cereal once and she ate it once."
